Issues in Primary
and 11 -16 reviews

11 - 16 Review

The 11 - 16 Curriculum Review highlights similar issues to the Primary Review, particularly the move to curriculum areas rather than individual subjects and a single standardised annual report instead of end of Key Stage assessment.

At Key Stage 4 these include:

i)     Transferable skills - IT, Application of Number, Communication, problem solving, working with others, and improving own learning and performance
ii)    Personal development, including healthy exercise
iii)   Citizenship
iv)   Education for employment, including work experience

As with the Primary Review the stated aim is to introduce greater flexibility at Key Stage 3 including the suggestion of 3 terms available for community or work-related learning or other projects outside the timetabled structure. It is stressed that this is not to be used to accelerate students through Key Stage 3.

Comments can be made on the CCEA website www.ccea.org.uk/currreview.htm or contact Margaret Quinn on 028 9026 1220 for a consultation pack.
